Jade Mikell's painting of an abstract subject, artwork, painting

 El Ojo II, 2024

rehydrated acrylic on upcycled canvas

18” x 72”

El Ojo II is an instalment in a body of work by Mikell that queries Anthroposophic visual languages she was reared with and the colour blue, a colour which has come to broadly represent hate organization Autism Speaks in Autistic social dialogues. Mikell investigates how these two visual subjects have brought her lifelong security and comfort while being inextricably tied to cites of dysfunction, devaluation and injury. El Ojo and El Ojo II take their titles from the Spanish for both “the eye.”El Ojo also describes a body of water similar to a reservoir, dependent on context.

consistent with Mikell’s practice, this piece is composed entirely of repurposed materials diverted from cycles of disuse, in an effort to mitigate industry waste. As a result, imperfections to the surfaces of frames and canvases are to be expected. Please contact the artist with further inquiries about production.
